So, my celebrity trainer also has a line of celebrity foods. Convenient, huh? The meals are made by a chef, and frozen. You buy a weeks worth of food ($240) and you magically lose the weight. The food they make is the exact food that is on your diet plan, (the plan that you already bought) you just fax it to the catering company and answer a few questions. I decide to try it, to see if it was the food that I was eating or if it was my gym routine that needed a tune up. I sign up for a week, and pick up my food. (shhh....Don't tell Mr. Hummingbird.)
The catering company that does the food is local. (How lucky is that?) They will also deliver your food right to your house, if needed, for an extra $50. I fax over my plan, and will pick up my food on Saturday. When I arrive, the food is all ready, stacked in a cooler. I pay the cashier, and lug my cooler home. I'm surprise at the amount of food that I got. I purchased three meals a day, and one snack/dessert. I have no idea how I'm going to hide all this food from Mr. Hummingbird. OR where I'm going to put all this food. I end up clearing out the extra freezer in the garage, and shove all the neat little packages in the back. In front of the food, I stack a whole bunch of tampon boxes, to obscure the food. My freezer looks like some crazy bomb shelter for an Eskimo. I'm hoping that if Mr. Hummingbird opens the freezer door, he will immediately shut it and walk away. And not ask any questions. (which BTW is exactly how it happened. It's been 10 years now, and he has yet to ask me why I kept my tampons in the freezer. I'm sure he thinks that it's a completely normal thing to do.)
That day, I start eating the food. I take out each meal, and let it thaw in the fridge. I nuke it for a few seconds, but I don't want to dry it out too much, so I basically eat it at room temp. Now, the food is still the same stuff I have been eating all along, but DANG it taste good when you don't have to make it yourself. The food is all cooked without butter or oil and with limited spices. But, it really taste just like restaurant food. I MUST figure out what they how they are doing this.
My plan is to just buy one week worth of food, and duplicate it on my own. So, as I'm eating, I write down exactly what I am tasting, in order to cook my meals just like these. (butter buds! Why didn't I think of that!) I also take a picture of each meal so I can remember exactly what each one looks like. And finally, I save the tiny bento like containers that each meal comes in, in order to reuse them for my meals. (BTW, from this point on, every time I see a reality show about weight loss, and the participants are eating, I'll see these exact containers. I've seen these containers on Body Challenge, Extreme Makeover, and USWeekly. That little catering company is doing well for themselves!) Fortunately, the catering company did not have me sign a contract or anything, so after the first week of food, I do not purchase any more delicious but overpriced meals from them. (I'm sure that policy is now changed because of me. Sorry.)
I ate the delicious meals religiously. I don't stray from my diet at all. As a matter of fact, during the week we take a trip to Disneyland. (my nieces were in town.) I pack a small cooler with my foods and snacks. (I was all ready to tell any of the Disney employees that I was diabetic and could only eat my special foods. Luckily for everyone, no one questioned me. Of course, this was before 9-11, so security was a joke at the park.) Mr. Hummingbird did notice the cooler and asked me about it, but I just told him that it was snacks for the girls. So, I would maneuver them to go on a ride together, and while they were gone, I would take my cold food and find a private corner and shove it in my mouth. It didn't taste as good as it normally did, but that's all I could do.
At the end of the week, I weigh myself. I lost 7 lbs! (for those keeping track, these 7 lbs cost me $54.40 for each lb. Counting both the gym cost and food costs for this one week.) I contemplate keeping up with buying the food, but there is no way I could afford this in addition to the gym workouts.
I resolve to stick to the diet. The exact diet.
